En Marzo se celebró la tercera Fiesta Latina. Cada año se lleva a cabo en iglesias latinas y este año se llevó a cabo en la Iglesia Metodista Unida Orangethorpe.
El sábado 20 nuestra iglesia se llenó con la presencia de muchos metodistas de toda la Conferencia y también de visitantes. El día comenzó con un culto en el Santuario donde el Rev. David Tinoco trajo el mensaje y la música estuvo a cargo del grupo Kerigma (Rev. Jorge Robles y Pastor Alberto Garcés).
Después se tuvo una buen almuerzo, juegos para los niños y niñas, mesas de información, entre ellas la librería metodista, Cokesbury. El día acabó con eventos y participaciones musicales, presentación de vestidos típicos de varias regiones de nuestra Patria Grande (Latinoamérica). Lo mejor fue el compañerismo y la participación de muchas congregaciones latinas de nuestra Conferencia.
Esperamos que el próximo año, el comité organizador lleve a cabo una nueva edición de la Fiesta Latina, esta vez 2005.
In March we celebrated the third annual Fiesta Latina. Each year the event takes place in a different Latino church, and this year it was at Orangethorpe United Methodist Church.
Saturday, March 20, our Church was full of Methodists from all over the Annual Conference, as well as visitors. The day began with a service in the Sanctuary, with Rev. David Tinoco delivering the message. Music was provided by Kerigma, led by Rev. Jorge Robles and Pastor Alberto Garcés.
After worship, there was a fine luncheon, games for the children, and information tables, among them one for the Cokesbury United Methodist bookstore. The day ended with more musical events, in which we all participated, plus a presentation of traditional clothing from all over our "Patria Grande" (Latin America). The best thing about the day was the fellowship and participation by many Latin congregations of our Conference.
We're looking forward to the next edition of Fiesta Latina in 2005.
Una delegación de diez personas, conformada por Metodistas Unidos de nuestra Conferencia y personas de otras denominaciones viajaron a El Salvador el 22 de Marzo. La Obispa Mary Ann Swenson viajó como parte del grupo que participó de las celebraciones del 24 aniversario del asesinato de Monseñor Arnulfo Romero, Obispo católico de ese país que fue asesinado, al celebrar la eucaristía, por defender a los pobres de su país.
Este viaje estuvo organizado y dirigido por nuestra pastora Teresa. Visitamos varias ciudades de ese país; también estuvimos en la Catedral visitando la tumba de Monseñor. La Obispa fue invitada a concelebrar en la capilla del Hospitalito, donde fue asesinado Monseñor Romero. El viaje también nos llevó a visitar y conocer la nueva iglesia Metodista de ese país que tiene 10 años de fundada con cuatro congregaciones.
El día 24 todos participamos de la "marcha de los farolitos" que comenzó al atardecer y llevó a miles de personas hasta la Catedral; frente a ésta, en la plaza se celebró una misa dirigida por el Obispo Chávez celebrado la vida de Monseñor Romero.

A delegation of ten people, made up of United Methodists of our Conference and people of other denominations, traveled to El Salvador on March 22. Bishop Mary Ann Swenson was part of the group which participated in celebrations of the 24th anniversary of the murder of Monsignor Arnulfo Romero, Catholic Bishop of that country who was killed while celebrating Holy Communion, for his defense of the poor people of his country.
This trip was organized and directed by our own Pastora Teresa. We visited several Salvadoran cities; we also went to the Cathedral to visit the tomb of Monsignor Romero. Our Bishop was invited to participate in the celebration in the Hospitalito Chapel, where Monsignor Romero was murdered. During the trip we also got to visit and get acquainted with the new Methodist Church which was founded only ten years ago and includes four congregations.
On the 24th, we all participated in the "march of lights" which began at nightfall and brought thousands of people to the plaza in front of the Cathedral, where Bishop Chávez directed a Mass celebrating the life of Monsignor Romero.
