Un viaje de fe - de Redlands a Rio Grande do Sul

Durante el mes de Junio se me concedió el mejor regalo de mi vida y ese fue llegar al día donde se celebraría el recibir de la Obispa Mary Ann Swenson las órdenes de Presbítera de la IMU por medio de una bella ceremonia de ordenación. Se realizó el sábado 21 de Junio a las 7:30 pm en la Univ. de Redlands. Gracias a Dios por concederme llegar hasta este paso y asi siempre servirle en lo que sea su voluntad. Llegaron seis personas a acompañarme del Ministerio Latino de la iglesia.

Luego después de unos días de este lindo acontecimiento salimos yo y mi esposo en viaje de vacaciones al sur del Brasil. Estuvimos en la ciudad de Porto Alegre, capital del estado Rio Grande do Sul. Allí pasamos la mayoria de nuestras vacaciones.

Visitamos también las ciudades de Gramado y Carazinho. Gramado es una ciudad en la sierra y es muy bella. Es pintoresca y construida toda al estilo de las pequeñas ciudades en La Alemania. El clima actual por esas tierras es invierno. Y se sabe poner muy frío. Gracias a Dios nos fue posible soportar el frío. Ese día visitamos la Iglesia Metodista en esa ciudad la cual tiene una Hostal para los turistas que llegan por alli.

En La ciudad de Carazinho fue donde tuvimos el gusto de pasar tres dias y una de las noches recibimos al Obispo quien viajó de Porto Alegre para junto con nosotros celebrar el bautizo de Daniel, el hijito de dos años de edad de uno de los pastores quien fue un alumno nuestro cuando trabajamos allí como misioneros. Fue muy linda la ceremonia y nosotros somos los padrinos de Daniel. Fue muy grato y alegre el tiempo juntos allí con el Obispo Luiz Vergílio da Rosa. El antes era un pastor en la iglesia Glória cuando nosotros vivimos allí y éramos buenos amigos. Esa amistad continúa igual tanto con su esposa y sus hijas quienes nos invitaron varias veces a su hogar a estar con ellos.

Por todo iugar donde visitamos pudimos expresar los saludos de todos ustedes de la Iglesia Orangethorpe y contarles de nuestro ministerio juntos. Ellos a su vez también expresaban su cariño y que les hiciéramos presente muchos saludos y abrazos de todos ellos para ustedes.

A journey of faith - from Redlands to Rio Grande do Sul

During June I received the best gift in all my life. That was experience of being named by Bishop Mary Ann Swenson as an elder of the United Methodist Church during a beautiful ordination ceremony. Six people from the Latino Ministry of our church joined me for the ceremony, which took place Saturday, June 21 at 7:30 pm at the University of Redlands. Thank God for helping me come this far! I will always serve Him in whatever might be His will.

Just a few days after this beautiful event, my husband and I left on a vacation trip to the south of Brazil. We spent most of our vacation in the city of Porto Alegre, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

We also visited the cities of Gramado and Carazinho. Gramado is a very pretty and picturesque mountain town in the style of a German village. It's Winter in the Southern Hemisphere now and does it ever get cold there! Thank God we were able to survive the cold weather. We visited the Gramado Methodist Church, which has a tourist hostel.

In Carazinho we enjoyed spending three days and a night and met the Bishop, who traveled from Porto Alegre to celebrate with us the baptism of Daniel, the two-year-old son of a pastor who was our student when we served as missionaries there. It was a very beautiful ceremony and Fernando and I were invited to be Daniel's godparents. We had a most pleasant visit there with Bishop Luiz Vergílio da Rosa. He was formerly the pastor at Glória Methodist Church when we lived in Brazil. We were good friends then and this friendship continues with the Bishop and his wife and daughters, who invited us to their home several times.

Everywhere we visited, we brought greetings from our Orangethorpe churchfamily and told people about our ministry here. Our hosts in Brazil also expressed their affection and asked us to give warm greetings and hugs to all of you.

Elvia Jaurequi

Elvia Jaurequi nació en Artesia, California. Se graduó de la Universidad Estatal de California en Domínguez Hills con bachillerato en administración de negocios. Ha desempeñado una variedad de trabajos, inclusive como contadora con el periódico Sacramento Bee y como ayudante a las Asambleístas Grace Napolitano y Sally Havice.

En 2002, Elvia decidió prepararse para el ministerio cristiano y matriculó en la Escuela Graduada de Teología en Claremont. Ella es co-presidenta de la Asociación Estudiantil en Claremont y es Coordinadora del Comité de Paz con Justicia del Distrito Santa Ana de la Iglesia Metodista Unida. Este verano, durante sus vacaciones, Elvia asistió al Programa Hispano de Verano en la Universidad de Santa María del Lago/Seminario Mundelein, cerca de Chicago, y a la Escuela de Misión Cristiana de las Mujeres Metodistas Unidas en Thousand Oaks.

Desde el inicio de nuestro Ministerio Latino, Elvia nos ha servido en capacidad de acompañista, tocando el piano en nuestros cultos de domingo. Recientemente, ella ha servido como profesora de Inglés como Segundo Idioma (ESL). Elvia ha sido bendecida con tres hijos y dos hijas, dos nietos y tres nietas. Nos dice que en este mismo año llegarán dos nietos más.

Who's Who in the Latino Ministry:
Elvia Jaurequi

Elvia Jaurequi was born in Artesia, California. She graduated from California State University Domínguez Hills with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She has had a variety of jobs, including working as an accountant with the Sacramento Bee, and as aide to Assembly members Grace Napolitano and Sally Havice.

In 2002, Elvia decided to prepare herself for Christian ministry by enrolling in the Claremont Graduate School of Theology. She is co-chairperson of the student body there and is also the Coordinator for United Methodist Santa Ana District Peace with Justice Committee. During her vacation this summer, Elvia has attended the Hispanic Summer Program at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, near Chicago, and the United Methodist Women's Christian Mission School in Thousand Oaks.

Since the beginning of our Latino Ministry, Elvia has served as our accompanist, playing piano at Sunday morning worship. Recently she has taught English as a Second Language classes. Elvia has been blessed with three sons and two daughters, as well as two grandsons and two granddaughters. She tells us that two more grandsons are due before the end of this year.
